Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 - A Closer Look at the Awaited Bike in the Market

Royal Enfield is set to make waves in the motorcycle industry with the highly anticipated Himalayan 450, a bike that will debut the brand's first-ever liquid-cooled engine. The bike is not only expected to deliver a new riding experience but also boasts of some significant firsts for the brand.

A Stark Departure in Design

The Himalayan 450 is set to break the mold of the typical Royal Enfield design. For starters, it features RE's first fully-digital instrument cluster, replacing the current bike's multi-pod semi-analogue design. The all-new dash presents a single-pod unit that replaces the 4-pod layout prevalent in the current 411cc bike model.

Digital Instrument Cluster - What to Expect

The Himalayan 450's dash is circular, consistent with modern-day RE models, but the layout within is all-new. The digital tachometer makes up the outer circumference of the unit, with the gear-position indicator at the center. The speedometer is positioned to the right of the gear indicator, and the digits appear to have quite a large font. The numbers on the tachometer suggest a redline between the 8,000-9,000rpm mark for the new liquid-cooled engine.

A 450cc Liquid-Cooled Engine

Unlike the current generation Himalayan, the 450 model features a slightly higher-revving motor. This new powerhouse is a 450cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine delivering 40bhp and 45Nm, linked to a six-speed gearbox. The bike also includes LED illumination.

Modern Design and Advanced Features

The Himalayan 450 sports a more modern, rugged design than its predecessor. It includes a transparent visor above the headlight, a wide and flat handlebar, and a split seat setup. The tail rack will likely be offered as an accessory by Royal Enfield.

The Himalayan 450 is also expected to feature Bluetooth connectivity, dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch, traction control, all-LED lighting, and more. The motorcycle may sport fully adjustable USD front forks and a rear mono shock setup.

Launch and Competition

Once launched, the Himalayan 450 will rival the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure, Yezdi Adventure, BMW G 310 GS, among others in the segment. It's expected to retail for around Rs. 2.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
