MotoGP Bharat: A Historic First in International Racing Events in India

The world of motorsports is abuzz with the news of India hosting its inaugural MotoGP Bharat race. A landmark occasion in Indian motorsports, this event testifies to the relentless efforts put into reintroducing top-tier international racing to the historic Buddh International Circuit. The last event of this stature graced the iconic track in 2013 with the F1 Indian GP.

The Revival of International Racing in India

Indian motorsports are bouncing back into the global racing scene with the upcoming MotoGP Bharat race. Previously, India's racing terrain witnessed impressive line-ups of world championship races, and there were significant commitments to host a round of the World Superbike Championship. However, despite several postponements, these plans stalled and were ultimately called off. Now, with an intense commitment from all participants and stakeholders, we are striving to make the India MotoGP race a triumph.

Carlos Ezpeleta, Managing Director of Dorna Sports, expressed last year how it was a "no-brainer" for MotoGP to schedule a race in India. As the world's largest two-wheeler market, India is an appealing choice for the international racing spectacle. The Uttar Pradesh government's strong support was another prime motivator behind this massive endeavour. They believe the event will provide a significant positive economic impact on the local area, thereby cementing India's place on the global racing map.

Prelude to the Race: Preparing the Track

Eager anticipation surrounds the imminent MotoGP Bharat race. However, it necessitates extensive preparation involving detailed planning, resources, and time. The task of organizing this event rests on the capable shoulders of Amit Sandill, co-founder of Fairstreet Sports. Known for his exceptional organizational skills and deep-rooted passion for motorsports, Sandill is confident that everything is proceeding as planned.

Despite the Buddh International Circuit's initial design for F1 racing, it required homologation from the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Recent reports reveal that the governing body has not only completed an initial track reconnaissance but also that improvements based on their feedback are actively underway.

The circuit's layout remains fundamentally the same, thus retaining its original charm and thrill. However, certain areas require alterations to fit the specifications for two-wheeler racing. One prime example is Turn 13, which will become a double apex corner to regulate the bikes' speed and maintain a high level of safety.

Safety Measures: Top of the List

Catering to the inherent risk of two-wheeler racing was a top priority during the preparations. Unlike F1, where drivers are seated within a safety structure, two-wheeler racing demands a higher level of precaution. Keeping that in mind, specific elements, including sections of the fencing, are relocated to create more run-off areas and gravel sections. These improvements meet the latest international specifications for safety measures in racing. Up till now, more than 1800 meters of new safety barricading has been installed, which is a testament to the meticulous planning and attention to detail ensuring the event's success.

Expect Record-breaking Speeds at MotoGP Bharat

Another prominent highlight of the MotoGP Bharat race is the anticipated high-speed racing it promises. Earlier this year, Brad Binder achieved a remarkable MotoGP speed record of 366.1kph at Mugello. However, the MotoGP Bharat race aims to break this record, with expected speeds reaching up to 370kph at the Buddh International Circuit. This feat will be made possible thanks to the extensive back straight that spans over a kilometer. Spectators can watch the racing unfold in two stages. A downhill segment will enable the riders to reach maximum acceleration, whereas an uphill section will allow for late braking and the maintenance of high speed.

Carlos Ezpeleta lauded the changes made to the Budd International Circuit stating that the track bears witness to India's dedication to hosting world-class motorsports events and shows promise for new speed records in the MotoGP books.

Accessibility Through Affordability: Inclusivity at its Best

In a bid to make the racing event a resounding success, a significant focus is aimed at making the event accessible to all. The MotoGP Bharat race organisers have stayed true to this commitment with ticket prices ranging between Rs. 2500 and Rs. 40,000. This ensures all motorsports enthusiasts get to enjoy three action-packed days of high-speed racing, including Moto 2 and Moto 3. Demonstrating accessibility at its best are the early bird tickets priced as low as Rs. 800, available for a limited period.

Encouragingly, the response to the availability of tickets has been overwhelmingly positive from motorsports fans and enthusiasts, indicating a promising turnout for the inaugural MotoGP Bharat race. Therefore, you are cordially invited to witness this thrilling debut, a sensory delight of speed, skills, excitement, and high-octane energy, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees!
