Tata Curvv SUV: First Spy Shots Reveal Larger Size, Set to Outgrow Nexon
7/15/2023 • India • New Launches
Tata's highly anticipated Curvv SUV is set to make a remarkable entrance into the automotive market. Initially launching in 2024 with an electric propulsion system, the Curvv will later introduce petrol and diesel internal combustion engines (ICE). The concept for the Tata Curvv, representing four years of dedicated development, was unveiled last year, making it the company's first-ever coupe-style SUV.
In response to a pressing need, Tata aims to fill the gap between their compact Nexon and Harrier SUVs. Currently absent from the compact SUV segment, which not only boasts fierce competition but also lucrative opportunities for automakers, Tata is strategically positioning the Curvv to target this specific market. With its distinctive coupe-inspired aesthetics, the Curvv is destined to stand out amidst the crowded segment, captivating the attention of discerning customers.
Tata Curvv: A Bold Entry Targeting the Compact SUV Segment
Taking on the segment-leading Hyundai Creta, as well as competitors such as the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota HyRyder, and the upcoming Honda Elevate, the Tata Curvv is poised to make its mark in the compact SUV segment. Measuring approximately 4.3 meters in length, the Curvv boasts a distinct identity with unique front and rear ends, setting it apart from its sibling, the Nexon. Built on the second-generation platform, which also underpinned the Blackbird project, the Curvv features a longer wheelbase, an extended rear overhang, and lengthier rear doors, further distinguishing it in the market.
Safety and Build Quality Take Center Stage: The Tata Curvv's Commitment to Excellence
Continuing Tata's commitment to safety and build quality, the upcoming Tata Curvv is set to inherit the solid foundation established by its sibling, the Nexon. As evidence of this dedication, the Nexon achieved an impressive five-star safety rating in Global NCAP tests. To maintain these high standards while optimizing production costs, the Curvv is expected to retain key components from the Nexon, such as the windscreen, body panels, and doors.
Embracing its coupe-inspired design, the Curvv showcases an elegantly curving roofline that seamlessly merges with the fastback trunk. With an extended wheelbase and rear overhang, the Curvv enhances both interior space for occupants and the size of the boot, surpassing the capacity of the Nexon. This thoughtful design approach ensures that the Curvv not only prioritizes safety and build quality but also delivers enhanced practicality and comfort for its discerning customers.
Versatility Unleashed: Tata Curvv - Offering Petrol, Diesel, and Electric Powertrain Options
The versatile Tata Curvv is set to captivate the market with its wide range of powertrain options, offering electric, petrol, and diesel variants. Built on the adaptable gen 2 platform, the Curvv possesses inherent flexibility, accommodating various body styles and sizes of battery packs. Anticipated to deliver an impressive range of approximately 500 km, the Curvv's battery pack promises enhanced endurance for long journeys. Notably, the Curvv will feature an improved and faster charging system, reducing the time required to recharge the battery pack. This ensures minimal downtime and a seamless driving experience.
In addition to its electric offering, the Curvv will introduce a brand-new 1500cc petrol engine, derived from the existing 1200cc three-cylinder engine powering the Nexon. The upgraded engine, now equipped with four cylinders, delivers a smoother performance and boasts an increased power output of around 160 hp. On the diesel front, the Curvv will feature a 1500cc engine with enhanced power and torque, surpassing the capabilities of existing diesel engines in Tata's lineup.
The Tata Curvv embodies power, flexibility, and a diverse range of options, catering to the varied needs and preferences of customers seeking an exceptional driving experience.
